At the end of Chapter 11, Ruth's mom tells her to go to New York over the summer to live with her relatives. Ruth was fascinated with New York for a number of reasons. To get a different view of the city during her time, you are going to read some selections from the orange Elements of Literature book.
1. Read pages 749-761.
2. On page 753, which sentence or expression in the essay best conveys its main idea? Express the main idea of the essay in your own words.
3. Do the "Quickwrite" on page 754.
4. On page 758, answer 1-6 under Thinking Critically and 1-4 under Thinking Critically.
5. On page 761, answer 1-7 under Thinking Critically.
All of this is due on Monday, April 19th at the beginning of class. Check back on Friday because I might add some reading from the novel as part of the assignment.
